PM Will Not Give His People a Chance to Go to War in Ukraine

TBONG KHMUM: Prime Minister Hun Sen has warned the Cambodian people not to try and be soldiers on Ukrainian territory, as entering the war between Russia and Ukraine is no different from adding more fuel to the flames, and further adding to the turmoil of the war. He made this statement while speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the Cambodia-China Tbong Khmum Friendship Hospital on Monday morning.

The Prime Minister announced that he would not allow the Cambodian people to go and fight this war. He added that in the past even when sending Cambodian Blue Helmet troops under the United Nations umbrella to undergo peacekeeping operations in other countries, he could not sleep for fear of the lives and safety of the Cambodian people.

He said, "Do not go beyond military service to fight on Ukrainian territory, I do not allow Cambodians to die on the territory of Ukraine, it is no different from pouring gasoline on to a fire, otherwise there will be more chaos."

On 27 February, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the creation of the International Legion of Territorial Defense of Ukraine, which would allow willing foreigners to join the fight against Russia on Ukrainian territory. Some European countries have allowed their citizens to go to war.
